Ingredients You Need

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 or 3 bell peppers (red, yellow, green – whatever you have)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, parsley, hot sauce

You can also add stuff like black beans or corn if you want to make it more filling or stretch it for the whole family.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1 – Brown the turkey

Heat the pan on medium heat and add the olive oil. Once it is warm, put in the ground turkey. Use a spoon or spatula to break it up and cook until it is no longer pink. It usually takes about 5 to 6 minutes.

Step 2 – Cook the onions and garlic

Add the sliced onion and minced garlic to the pan with the turkey. Stir it around and let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the onions are soft and smell so good.

Step 3 – Add the peppers and spices

Now add the chopped bell peppers to the pan. Sprinkle the paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper on top. Stir everything together. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the peppers are soft but still have a little crunch.

Step 4 – Taste it and fix it

Taste the food and see if it needs more salt or spice. Some days I add a little more paprika if I want it smoky or more chili powder if we are in the mood for heat. Adjust it how your family likes it.

Step 5 – Add toppings (if you want)

You can sprinkle shredded cheese over the top and let it melt while the food is still warm. Or add some parsley for a fresh touch. If your kids like spicy things, a little hot sauce goes great too.

Why I Love Making This

This dish is quick, easy, and so good. It fills everyone up and tastes like I put in way more effort than I actually did. I love that it is healthy but still something my kids enjoy eating. I can make it on busy school nights when I am running between homework and bedtime routines. It is always a hit and I do not stress about what else to make.

You can serve it with rice, pasta, or wrap it in a tortilla to make it more fun. It is super flexible and you can change it up depending on what is in your fridge.

Give it a try and let me know if your family loves it as much as mine does!

FAQs

Can I use ground chicken instead of ground turkey?

Yes! I sometimes switch it up with ground chicken when I have it on hand. It still tastes really good and cooks the same way. Just make sure it is cooked all the way through before serving.

What sides go best with this recipe?

I usually serve it with rice or pasta because it is super filling that way. Tortillas are also fun if you want to make little wraps. A side salad or some fruit always helps balance it out.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Totally! I like to make it a little earlier and keep it in the fridge. It reheats really well and still tastes great the next day. It is perfect for leftovers when life gets busy.
