What You’ll Need:

Here’s what I threw into the crockpot. You probably have most of this stuff hangin’ around:

  • 12 oz spaghetti (I just broke mine in half so it fit)
  • 1 jar (about 24 oz) of pasta sauce—use your fave
  • 3 cups fresh spinach (or 1 box of frozen—thawed and squeezed out)
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (baby bella or just plain white ones are fine)
  • 3 cups veggie or chicken broth
  • 1 small onion, diced (or skip it if it’s a “nope” ingredient in your house)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced (or the pre-minced stuff in a jar—bless it)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: grated parmesan, a scoop of ricotta, red pepper flakes if you’re feelin’ spicy

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Get your crockpot ready

Spray the inside with cooking spray so stuff doesn’t stick. Or rub it with a little oil. Or just live dangerously. You do you.

Step 2: Add the veggies and flavor

Toss in the sliced mushrooms, spinach, diced onion, and garlic. Sprinkle in the Italian seasoning, and a lil’ salt and pepper. It’ll smell like you actually know what you’re doing.

Step 3: Pour in the sauce and broth

Dump the whole jar of sauce on top. Then add the broth. Give it a stir if you feel like it, but it’s not required. This recipe’s not picky.

Step 4: Break and layer the spaghetti

Break the spaghetti noodles in half (I know it hurts our Italian ancestors, but it must be done). Lay them across the top of the sauce. Try to press them down a bit so they’re covered in liquid. They’ll cook better that way.

Step 5: Cover and cook

Put the lid on, say a quick prayer to the dinner gods, and cook on HIGH for 2 to 2.5 hours, or LOW for 4 to 5 hours.
Check it halfway if you can and give it a gentle stir. If not, no worries—this recipe is very forgiving. Like grandma-level forgiving.

Step 6: Stir, serve, and cheese it up

Once the noodles are soft, give it all a big stir. Everything will look kinda saucy and glorious. Scoop it into bowls and top with cheese if you want. I usually dump parmesan on mine like I’m trying to build a snowman.

FAQ: Crockpot Spaghetti Edition

Can you really cook pasta in a crockpot?

Yes girl, and it’s LIFE-CHANGING. Just make sure the noodles are covered with enough liquid (sauce + broth) and don’t overcook it—pasta can get mushy if left too long. Trust the process, mama.

Do I have to cook the pasta first?

Nope! That’s the beauty of it. This is lazy genius cooking. Just break the dry noodles in half, layer them in, and let your crockpot do all the heavy lifting.

Can I use a different kind of pasta?

Totally. I’ve used penne, rotini, and elbows when I was out of spaghetti noodles. Just keep an eye on the cook time—some shapes take a little longer.

How long can I keep it in the fridge?

About 3–4 days. If it lasts that long. Around here, it’s usually gone by Day 2 because someone (me) keeps sneaking bites straight from the fridge.

What if I need to add meat?

Easy peasy. Brown up some ground beef, turkey, or sausage ahead of time and toss it in with the sauce at the beginning. You can even use leftover meatballs or rotisserie chicken.
