With so many variety of dal preparations made throughout India, it will be hard to count the number of varieties prepared or the kinds that exist in different regions. Dal is such a generic term, that if I am to say, I made dal today, the other person would be imagining some other dal variety in mind.

The whole masoor dal recipe or the sabut masoor dal recipe is rich is fiber as we are using the whole dal here as against the split variety. Low in fat and calories, and high on protein this dal should not be missed by the diet watchers too. A perfect and delicious dish when you are counting your calories unlike moi!

I prefer to soak it overnight. But when short on time, I just soak it for couple of hours for perfect results. And if I do not have that much time too, I directly cook it in the pressure cooker for double the time with perfect results. As dal, roti or rice are such a staple diet at my home, I love to make different varieties every time. And this whole masoor dal recipe or the sabut masoor dal recipe certainly tops the list in health department. But, just in case, you are trying to fattening your kids, as against reducing your waistline, (as is the scene in my home) you can make this with loads of butter or ghee.

If you would like to mix this with rice and relish, you can make the consistency little thin by adding more water. But if you want to enjoy it with roti then make it little thick.
