Twisted Fly Stitch is almost like the fly stitch but just twisted in it’s working.

What you will need?

  • Any fabric.
  • Embroidery hoop, 15cm (6″) (Bigger if you are working on a larger design) ( You can purchase a set of 6 hoops from Amazon for your basic needs.)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery thread (You can buy this pack of 36 shades of the DMC embroidery floss.)

How many strands of floss do you need for making the Twisted Fly Stitch?

You can use all 6 strands of the floss. But if you are working on a finer design, then start with 2 strands of floss and increase the number of strands according to your design. I have used all 6 strands of floss for this design.

Step by Step Pictorial Process of making the Twisted Fly Stitch

starting on the fly stitch

1. Start by bringing the fabric up at point A. Take the needle and insert from point B to point C as shown in the above picture. Note that the point C lies diagonal to point A and B.

2. Pull the thread gently without fulling closing it. Leave a little thread to work on.

3. Pass the needle from over the thread.

4. Gently pull the thread and take it down at point D to finish the stitch.

Tips for working the Twisted Fly Stitch

  • If you know how to work a fly stitch, this will be pretty easy.

What is this stitch used for?

  • This stitch can be used in place of the usual fly stitch.
