السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

This is a very, very tasty tomato onion chutney recipe or టమోటా ఉల్లిపాయ పచ్చడి which you can mix with rice and savor it.

Ideally it is made to be served along with idli, paniyaram or dosa, but I love it when the tomato onion chutney is mixed with rice.

A dash of ghee mixed with this chutney in rice and served with papad on the side, and it is pure ecstasy. This pachadi is a traditional Andhra chutney recipe from where my dad belongs. It is a very famous recipe of Andhra Pradesh.

A very simple preparation with the most basic ingredients, the tomato onion chutney recipe or the tomato onion pachadi can be made when you can’t think of anything else to cook. Pachadi is nothing but chutney in Telugu.

You can always alter this to suit your individual taste preferences like adding in more onions or tomato or tamarind.

The very best thing that I like about this tomato onion chutney recipe is the fact that unlike the coconut chutney or peanut chutney, this doesn’t get spoiled fast as we cook the ingredients.

I am always apprehensive to keep the other chutneys in my kids tiffin box as I am scared that it will spoil and my kids won’t realise and eat it.

So I make the coconut chutney when eating at home and keep this tomato onion chutney recipe for the tiffin box.

Onion tomato chutney recipe has a little bit of sweetness from the lightly fried onions, hotness from red chilies, a nutty and crunchy flavor from the dal and peanuts, and the nice tanginess from tomatoes. That is how it is made in Andhra.

You can even use chana dal or sesame seeds for an enhanced flavor as many people in Andhra do.
