By Fareeha 3 Comments June 3, 2016

Simple Toor dal recipe or split pigeon peas recipe in south indian style is a very simple and very easy dish to make. There is no long list of ingredients or elaborate method involved.

Toor dal recipe in south indian is nothing but cooked split pigeon lentils which are lastly tempered in oil or ghee with fried spices & herbs of your choice. I have kept them to the minimum. But you can always add more spices and herbs of your choice.

Indian cuisine has so many varieties of dal recipes that it will take a life time to explore everything. Each region has its own different and  delicious recipes. This is one of the South Indian version of the simple toor dal recipe as it is but natural that I share a lot of South Indian recipes as I belong to Chennai, the capital of the South Indian state of tamil Nadu.

Few of the dal recipes that I have already shared in my blog are Simple Masoor Dal Recipe-how to make masoor dal recipe Methi Dal Recipe-How to make methi dal recipe Punjabi Dal Fry Recipe and Simple Moong Dal Recipe

Simple Toor Dal recipe, South Indian StyleI make this creamy lentil recipe with moong dal or the masoor dal (split pink lentils) and sometimes even with the chana dal too. If you prefer you can always add the goodness of the green leaves by adding methi or palak to the dal and enjoying it’s goodness. (Valium) It does taste fabulous when green leaves are add to the dal.

You can serve this simple toor dal recipe in south indian with some steamed rice and papad or even with chapati, nan, or roti. You can increase or decrease the amount of water to your desired consistency.

These kind of simple and easy south indian recipes are really close to my heart, especially that come from my region the Tamil Nadu. Though it is widely used recipe throughout the India, but I love the little bit of tamil or the south indian touch to it.

Do you soak the toor dal in the 2 cups water you will be cooking with or do you drain them then add them to 2 cups cooking water?
