Pizza Paratha recipe, How to make pizza paratha

Bored of eating the same types of parathas again and again? Want to try something fun and different from your regular parathas? How about Pizza Paratha recipe? Yes, you heard that right!! Pizza Paratha!!!

Doesn’t this sound amazingly delicious. That you can have two goodness in one dish. Pizza and Paratha!! Can a dish get any better than this!!  I am sure it wouldn’t.

Bored of eating the same types of parathas again and again? Want to try something fun and different from your regular parathas? How about Pizza Paratha recipe? Yes, you heard that right!! Pizza Paratha!!!

And that too with health. No refined flour, no oil. Yeah, if you discount the cheese. But then again, you can’t really avoid cheese for long, can you?

You can make the pizza paratha recipe with any filling of your choice. You can even add in some left over tandoori chicken pieces with cheese to make an amazing chicken pizza paratha recipe.

But for now I have just added the veggies and made a veggie paratha. It tastes just awesome. I love adding the green chili which gives it that nice zing to it. But you can omit it if you do not like the heat so much.

For me I love adding the finely chopped green chili. But I tend to omit that while making for kids. I add them to our cheese mixture after I am done making for kids.

And the kids love this pizza paratha recipe so much too. I don’t even have to worry about making any side dish with it. It tastes awesome just as it is. Just serve it with some ketchup, just like how you would serve a traditional pizza.

But the one most important tip to remember is to cook the pizza paratha recipe on a really low heat as even the inside of the rolled out paratha has to get cooked through.

If you cook it like you would cook a normal paratha or chapati, the cheese won’t melt and the inside portion of the rolled out dough will be still under cooked.

As we are not baking where yeast is added to the dough to make the base gradually rise, and this is just a plain paratha dough, the inside part will be under cooked if you cook on high flame.

So just remember to really, really cook on low heat. Apart from that, everything else is a no brainer. Add in any kind of filling that pleases you.

I am including instructions for the paratha dough too, just in case. And I know I am bad at explaining the steps, and that’s why I have added a collage too for your easy reference.

As clumsy as the collage is, still you will get a basic idea what exactly I am talking about. When you see the picture it becomes easy to explain.

As they say, a picture says a thousand words. And that’s true for a food blog too.

I try to click the picture of the recipes that gets difficult to explain. As I am very bad at taking pictures while cooking, and hence the quality of the collage tends to be little bit clumsy.

But then again, something is better than nothing.

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour.
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tsp oil
  • water for kneading

For the stuffing

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 green chili finely minced
  • 1 cup green capsicum / bell pepper finely chopped
  • 1 big onion finely chopped
  • 1 to mato deseeded and finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves / cilantro leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp pizza sauce
  • oil for drizzling
  • flour for dusting while rolling out the paratha

Instructions

For the Dough

  • Add the whole wheat flour, salt and gradually add water while kneading. Make it to a soft and smooth dough like how you would make for chapati. Apply oil and knead it softly for a minute again. Set aside for at least half an hour. Your paratha dough is ready to roll out now.

For making the pizza Paratha recipe

  • Mix the mozzarella cheese, green chili, green capsicum, onion, tomato, coriander leaves and salt in a bowl and keep aside.
  • Roll out tennis ball sized paratha dough into a round disc like you would do for a chapati / paratha.
  • Apply 1 tbsp pizza sauce on the disc leaving 1 inch space from the outer edge.
  • Place 2 tbsp of cheese mixture on one side of the sauce like shown in the picture.
  • Fold over the paratha. Press down the edge of the paratha with fork.
  • Place the paratha on a tawa on low heat. Drizzle some oil. Cook till it is cooked through and repeat on the other side too. Remember to cook on the bottom of the paratha too by holding it upright. Cook on low heat as the pizza paratha recipe will not be cooked inside.
  • Remove from heat when it is golden brown in color.
  • Your delicious pizza paratha recipe is ready to serve.
