What you will need?

  • Any fabric.
  • Embroidery hoop, 15cm (6″) (Bigger if you are working on a larger design) ( You can purchase a set of 6 hoops from Amazon for your basic needs.)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery thread (You can buy this pack of 36 shades of the DMC embroidery floss.)

How many strands of floss do you need for making the knotted lazy daisy stitch?

You can use all 6 strands of the floss. But if you are working on a finer design, then start with 1 strand of floss and increase the number of strands according to your design.

Step by Step Pictorial Process of making the knotted lazy daisy

starting the knotted lazy daisy

1. Start by bringing the needle up at point A. Pull the thread up and again insert the needle from point A to point B.

2. Loop the thread around the needle-like the bullion knot.

3. Pull the needle along with the thread gently.

taking the needle down

3. Take the needle down at point C. Pull the thread down now. You can continue to work around your pattern and finally secure with a knot at the end.

Tips for working the knotted lazy daisy stitch

  • If you know the chain stitch, then this is pretty easy to work on. You just have to stop at midpoint and loop around the needle before moving ahead with the stitch.

What is this stitch used for?

  • You can make beautiful flower designs with this stitch.
  • This also looks good if made as leaves.
