Ingredients – AKA Stuff You Probably Already Have

For the cake part:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the magical fudgy sauce:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ¾ cups hot water

How to Make Crockpot Chocolate Cobbler

Step 1: Prep Your Slow Cooker

Spray the inside of your crockpot with nonstick spray unless you enjoy scrubbing dried chocolate off dishes (if so, please come to my house and do mine).

Step 2: Mix the Cake Batter

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder. It’ll look like hot cocoa mix, but don’t be tempted to taste it. (Ask me how I know.)

Now, stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. It’s gonna be thick—like brownie batter. Spread this chocolatey goodness into the bottom of your crockpot.

Step 3: Make the Fudgy Topping

In another bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cocoa powder. Sprinkle it evenly over the batter. Yes, it looks weird. No, don’t question it. Just trust the process.

Step 4: Pour the Hot Water – DO NOT STIR!

Okay, this is where things get a little odd. Take that hot water and pour it gently over the whole thing. It’s gonna look like a crime scene, but I promise it’ll work out.

DO NOT STIR IT. I repeat—do not mix it in! This is what makes the magic happen. The water sinks down, turning the bottom into a warm, gooey chocolate sauce while the top bakes into cake.

Step 5: Walk Away and Let the Crockpot Do Its Thing

Put the lid on, set it to high for 2 to 2.5 hours, and go live your life. You could fold some laundry, but honestly, I’d just scroll Instagram and pretend I don’t see the mess.

Step 6: Serve It Up!

After about 2 hours, check your cobbler. The top should look set, like a cake, but if you scoop down, you’ll find a thick, molten chocolate sauce waiting underneath.

Grab a spoon and dish it up warm, making sure to get a little of both the cake and the sauce. And listen—this dessert needs a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It just does. Don’t fight it.

FAQs – All Your Chocolate Cobbler Questions Answered!

Can I use a different type of flour?

Yep! If you want to go gluten-free, try using a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. I wouldn’t recommend almond or coconut flour unless you like experimenting (which, honestly, I do not when it comes to chocolate).

Can I make this in the oven instead?

Absolutely! Pour everything into a greased 9×9 baking dish and bake at 350°F for about 35-40 minutes. Just like with the crockpot, don’t stir the water in—let the magic happen.

How do I store leftovers?

First of all, if you have leftovers, I’m impressed. But if you do, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave with a splash of milk to bring back the gooey goodness.

What if my cobbler is too runny?

It’s supposed to be gooey on the bottom, but if it’s too liquidy, let it sit with the lid off for about 10-15 minutes to thicken up. Also, make sure you measured the hot water correctly (I know, I’ve miscounted before too).

What’s the best way to serve this?

With vanilla ice cream. No arguments. Maybe some whipped cream if you’re feeling extra fancy.
