السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته
Amla Rice recipe or the Nellikai Sadam recipe is a simple and very tasty rice preparation made with the Indian Gooseberry. With abundance of health benefits in the gooseberry, there is no denying that including it in out diet is a must. And what better way than to make a delicious and easy rice preparation of it.
With the amount of Vit C present in the gooseberry, including the amla in your diet should be a must. I love the Amla pickle which I love so much. I grate the amla and make the pickle but the amla rice recipe or the nellikai sadam recipe never came to my dull brain, until I saw it on my dear friend, Krishna Kumari’s blog here. Immediately I had a “light bulb” moment!! Ahaa!!! How lovely and simple is that!! Anything that can include the amla in my kiddies’ diet is bliss for me. I tried it the next time I bought the amlas and finely grated it. Ouch!! It still hurts from all the grating that I did!! He he.. I hate this part. But you can totally cut it into big chunks and put it into the mixer or roughly grate it. I was over – enthusiastic and hence I did the fine grating. And I didn’t want to leave any traces of amla that my kiddos could recognise. (Don’t ask me why I didn’t grind it if that was the case.. My mind stops functioning “most” of the time).
So when I made this Amla Rice recipe or the Nellikai Sadam recipe, it was a super duper hit. My kiddos thought it was lemon rice and the little one even went a step further and said “I want more khatta” meaning there should have been more of the amla for the tanginess. Noted!! For next time!! In sha ALLAH. I did basic minimum tempering for the Amla Rice recipe or the Nellikai Sadam recipe and the taste was simply awesome. Pretty much like the lemon rice and, dare I say, even better. End result. Kids happy, mamma happy. A big tick for the Amla Rice recipe or the Nellikai Sadam recipe.
